| THE EXHIBIT GALLERY DESCRIPTION The Columbia Icefield Interpretive Center is located at the foot of the Athabasca Glacier in Alberta, Canada. The exhibit area is comprised of a number of static and interactive exhibits that were fabricated by House of Kevin. The displays include an illuminated topographic map which utilizes an image reproduced from satillite data projected on to an eight foot white sculpted model. The surface of the model acts as a screen to capture the detail of the snow dome area. Located next to the map is a Three Way Peppers Ghost device that uses a computer activated imaging system to transform one landscape into three different movements of the glacier. The largest component in the center is the "Ice Machine". This sculptural form depicts the layers and curved surfaces of a glacier in an abstract form with the single characteristics, such as mill wells and crevasses, mourted to the surface. Numerous other exhibits pepper the gallery to complete the visitor experience. SPECIFICATIONS Client: Parks Canada Timeline: January thru May 1996 Opened: July 1996 Exhibit Space: 5500 sq ft |
