Creating a new database

KazTrix allows you to create an unlimited number of databases. To create a new database select New Database from the File menu. Alternatively, you may click on the button or press Ctrl+N on your keyboard.

You will be asked to enter a name for the new database. This name must be unique. A database called MASTER is already pre-installed on your system and is activated on startup, therefore the name MASTER cannot be used for a new database.

If you wish, you may use the MASTER database to store data.

New in 1.0 are templates. You may create your own templates using the template drop-down menu. Templates are empty databases with pre-typed field lables to help save you time. If you often use the same database type with different data, templates will help you out!

Database Compression
Compresses the size of your databases so they take up less room on your hard drive.
Database compression is a new tool in the Tools menu.  When Database Compression is checked, KazTrix will compress your database when you exit the program.  This will compress the size of the database file, and leaves your data intact.  Compression is turned on by default.

With database compression turned off, your database files are not compressed when you exit the program.  This may speed up the start and exiting of KazTrix, but leaves the size of your database files unchanged.

Opening/Selecting a database

To access your previously created databases you may either select Open from the File menu, click on the button or press Ctrl+O.

For faster access, all of the database names are stored inside the drop-down list at the top right corner of the screen.

You may select and open your databases from this list.

Saving your database

You should save your database after making any changes. To save, select Save from the File menu or click on the button, or press Ctrl+S.

Renaming a database

To rename an already existing database, select Rename from the File menu. You will be presented with the Rename Database dialog box.

Enter the new unique name for the database and click OK.

Deleting a database

To delete a database select Delete Database from the File menu. An alert box will confirm your action since there is no way of regaining access to your data after the database has been deleted.
